Region 8 ESC, in conjunction with the other eight ESCs and the IDOE, will begin a series of trainings for those individuals who will be doing the evaluations of teachers using the Indiana RISE Evaluation and Development System. Teams from each of the ESCs are being trained in Indianapolis by IDOE staff between November 2011 and June 2012. Each team will then provide the training back in their ESCs for their schools. Region 8’s team consists of Bob Huffman, Amy Leeson, Steve Doepker, Brent Kauffman and Diana Showalter. Before the official training sessions began, Region 8 offered overview sessions in December and January for administrators, teachers, school board members and community members who wish to have a clearer understanding of RISE.
Region 8 has developed a schedule of official training sessions for those individuals who will be serve as evaluators, either primary or secondary, in the school corporations. Anyone involved in this process must attend these training sessions. The topics for the training include the following:
- Best Practices for Classroom Observation
- Conferencing/Providing Feedback
- Student Learning Objectives
- Communicating with Teachers about RISE
- RISE Scoring
These sessions will take place from February- June 2012 and will also be offered in the fall of 2012 if needed. In addition, they are being held at multiple times and in multiple sites in the Region 8 area. Click here for the Summer 2012 training schedule.
